CSIRO Visit
On Wednesday the 12th of November all of the 5T also a bit of 6N and 5P went to C.S.I.R.O. If you are wondering what C.S.I.R.O. stands for, it is Commonwealth, Scientific, Industrial, Research, Organisation. We had at least 9 activities to choose from. There was Slip sliding away, It’s runny honey, All together now, How dense am I, Animated earth, Round the twist, Earths Structure, Shaking all over and I feel the earth move. Slip sliding away was an avalanche activity. What you do is turn the handle with a container half full of pebbles and keep turning until they fall to the side and then measure the degree that it took to make the pebbles fall. The activity How Dense Are You looked at how heavy volcanic rocks are. What you have is three rocks and you have to measure to weight of the rocks, then to measure the volume by putting the rocks in a measuring cup. You then see how far the water goes up and that will be the volume. Times the volume by 5 and divide the weight and volume together and you will have you answer. The activity All Together Now shows you where the volcanos are. To do this you need to put a puzzle together and find out where the volcanos are and they were all close to the edge. We also did an activity which was Round the Twist and the first step is to fill a container up with water pour it into another container with a hole in the bottom. You needed to find out if it goes clock wise or anti clock wise. Then you think if there were two holes in the container which way the water will go.
We all had a great time.
