Inquiry Learning

October 18th, 2008

This term we are learning about natural disasters.

On Tuesday we used playdough to make the earth’s structure.

CSIRO Visit – Natural Disasters

We have written procedural texts about the activities we did on Wednesday when CSIRO visited us.

How to find the density of a rock.

Materials needed: a rock, rock scales, and tall jug with measuring lines, calculator, pen, and paper

Action plan:

1. Pick up your rock and put it on the rock scale.

2. Write the weight on the paper with the pen

3. Put your finger on the line where the water is and keep it there.

4. Drop the rock into the water and count how many millilitres it has moved up then x by 5.

5. If the water level moves up 4 then it would be 20.

6. Do a divided by sign then put how many it moved up on the piece of paper.

7. Use a calculator to figure out the answer and the answer is the density of the rock.
